In July, adidas unveils the new generation of elite sprint spikes – Adizero Prime SP4. The latest model combines lightness, stiffness, and explosiveness, using fully reworked technologies tested in collaboration with elite athletes. Can’t wait to try them? Get a preview of the SP4 in our article.
Key Features of adidas Adizero Prime SP4
Get to know the Adizero Prime SP4 up close. The shoe is designed especially for 100m sprint. Every detail is tuned with one main goal: helping sprinters reach top speed as quickly as possible.
- Weight: only 190 grams (EU size 44)
- Drop: aggressive –10 mm forward tilt for instant toe-off; in combination with the carbon plate and Speed Wedge (see below), SP4 offers a dramatically different run feel than SP3
- Stack Height: 20 mm forefoot / 10 mm heel
- Outsole: 6 spikes plus secondary traction elements for maximum grip
Three pillars of speed: upper, midsole, outsole
Every part of the shoe plays its role. Together, they provide everything you need in a sprint. Let’s take a closer look.
1) Upper – Perfect fit
The new breathable engineered mesh upper provides excellent ventilation and reinforcement in key zones. A lightly padded heel and gusseted tongue ensure stability and close fit throughout the sprint.
2) Midsole – Speed you can feel
At the heart of SP4 is a completely new midsole construction.
- Full-length carbon plate – the stiff construction mirrors the metatarsal bones for maximum energy return and effective toe-off
- Lightstrike Pro midsole + Speed Wedge – the new foam shape is enhanced by the Speed Wedge, moving the takeoff point closer to the forefoot for even more explosiveness
- Developed with athlete feedback – optimized for real-world sprinting needs
3) Outsole – Smooth transition to top speed
The outsole features a glass-fiber spike carrier with 6 spikes and secondary traction elements. The outsole material protects the foam and ensures a smooth transition to maximum speed. In short, nothing distracts you at high pace.
Comparison: SP4 vs SP3
After the successful SP and SP2, runners expected SP3 to be another leap forward. However, feedback was mostly negative – mainly due to excessive stiffness, restrictive upper, and not dynamic enough transition. With SP4, adidas addressed these issues. How do the models differ? Here’s a quick summary:
| Feature | SP3 | SP4 |
| Upper | STRUNG (knit) | Engineered mesh with zonal reinforcement |
| Midsole | Lightstrike Pro + carbon | Lightstrike Pro + carbon + SPEED WEDGE |
| Weight | 195 g | 190 g |
| Stack Height | 10 mm | 10 mm |
| Drop | 11 mm (heel much higher than forefoot) | –10 mm (forefoot higher than heel) |
| Fit | Stiff, restrictive, very narrow | More flexible and comfortable |
Conclusion: SP4 is exactly what sprinters wanted
The Adizero Prime SP4 is a return to the roots of the SP edition – but with new and improved technology. A spike for those who step on the track with a clear goal: to win. Faster transitions, more precise fit, better energy return. A spike made for big moments. We can’t wait.
